Teaching Workshop To Be Held At AAA Annual Meeting Aug. 2008
June 10, 2008
FEI Summary

The need for more working professionals to teach at the college level has been identified by the U.S. Treasury Advisory Committee on the Auditing Profession (ACAP), to help offset the shortage of PhDs in Accounting and to bring practical experience to the classroom.

Financial executives interested in exploring teaching at the college level may be interested in attending a new program offered by the American Accounting Association (AAA), described below.

The American Accounting Association’s (AAA’s) 1st Annual Conference on Teaching and Learning in Accounting (CTLA), including the Workshop for Practitioners Interested in College Teaching, which will be held during the AAA Annual Meeting in Anaheim, California, August 2-3, 2008.

Designed for practitioners interested in making the transition to college teaching, this two-day conference that offers CPE credit surrounds the AAA Annual Meeting to offer teaching oriented CPE and an Insiders' Guide — a kind of "road map" — to sessions on teaching and curriculum related topics throughout the Annual Meeting program that will be attended by 3,000+ accounting educators.

Featuring a unique conference-within-a-conference structure, AAA’s CTLA begins with a Workshop for Practitioners Interested in College Teaching on Saturday morning, August 2.

The Practitioner Workshop is followed by a luncheon on Saturday and a full afternoon program focused on the craft of teaching and effective best practices. The Saturday program also includes an Insiders' Guide to the Annual Meeting with directions for finding the many sessions and activities held throughout the AAA Annual Meeting program that address issues of education and practice relevant for teaching.

On Sunday August 3, CTLA attendees will be able to choose two half-day CPE sessions from  the special teaching conference (“Teaching with Technology” or “Preparing for Class”) or choose one teaching conference CPE and one regular AAA CPE course. The program for both the Practitioner Workshop and the Teaching Conference is available online at http://aaahq.org/AM2008/PW_CTLA.htm#outline.

There are three options for registering for the Practitioner Workshop and CTLA:

  • Option 1: Full Package — Practitioner Workshop and CTLA plus Annual Meeting registration - $800 (A $915 value)
  • Option 2: Practitioner Workshop and CTLA ONLY — Saturday and Sunday Only - $450 (A $535 value)
  • Option 3: If you’ve already registered for the Annual Meeting you can add the Practitioner Workshop and CTLA registration to your meeting experience.

Practitioner Workshop and Teaching Conference information and registration details are available online at http://aaahq.org/AM2008/PW_CTLA.htm. If you are interested in attending please complete the application form (http://aaahq.org/AM2008/PW_CTLA_Application.pdf) and fax it to the AAA office at 941-923-4093.

All applicants will be notified of their acceptance by June 16. If you have any questions about this new program, contact Deirdre Harris at AAA  Deirdre@aaahq.org or 941-556-4119.
