Mary L. Schapiro Named SEC Chair By President-elect Obama, Subject To Senate Confirm

At a press conference earlier today, President-elect Barack Obama named Mary L. Schapiro, currently chief executive officer of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), as his pick for chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Her appointment is still subject to Senate confirmation. Shapiro's experience includes serving as an SEC commissioner, as well as serving as chair of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
