In October, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley (D-NV), and Representatives Nunes (R-CA), Brady (R-TX), and Davis (D-AL), intorduced HR 3905, the Estate Tax Relief Act of 2009, which would gradually increase the exemption from the estate tax to $5 million and gradually decrease the top tax rate to 35% over ten years.
On November 9, 2009, FEI’s Committee on Private Company Policy, along with 48 other associations signed a letter supporting this bipartisan bill. The effort was coordinated by the Family Business Estate Tax Coalition.
