Treasury Seeks Comment on Regulatory Reform

October 11, 2007

FEI Summary

On Oct. 11, 2007, the U.S. Treasury Department released for public comment a set of questions on regulatory reform. The questions address regulatory structure, principles-based regulation and more. The comment deadline is November 21. See also Treasury's related press release.

Regulatory reform considerations are part of U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson's U.S. Capital Market's Competitiveness Initiative.

As previously reported, the first meeting of Treasury's Advisory Committee on the Audit Profession, co-chaired by former U.S. Securities and Exchange Commissioner Arthur Levitt Jr. and former SEC Chief Accountant Don Nicolaisen – another part of Paulson's Capital Market initiative – will take place on Oct. 15.

Prepared Oct. 11, 2007 by Edith Orenstein (eorenstein@financialexecutives.org), Director, Technical Policy Analysis, Financial Executives International (FEI). This summary does not represent FEI opinion unless specifically noted above.
