FASB Engages With Academics Through 'FASB Research Hours' In Second Life Jan. 29, 2009 FEI Summary
The Financial Accounting Standards Board engages in weekly interaction with academics from around the country through the FASB Research Hours program on Second Life.
Second Life is a virtual world created by Linden Labs, where people can interact with others, including participating in conferences, meetings, and more.
FASB Research Hours were developed by by Prof. Rob Bloomfield, the director of Graduate Studies, and is director of the Business Simulation Laboratory, in the The Johnson School of Business at Cornell University. Bloomfield currently serves as Director of FASB's Research Initiative. He is also active in the nascent field of Metanomics, which studies business and policy issues arising in the "metaverse" of virtual worlds, and hosts the weekly Metanomics event series in Second Life.
