Cynthia Cooper Keynotes Day Two Of FEI CFRI Conference November 13, 2007
Cynthia Cooper, best known as the WorldCom Inc. whistleblower who uncovered the fraud at WorldCom, delivered the keynote address on the second day of FEI's Current Financial Reporting Issues (CFRI) conference (Nov. 13, 2007). Robert Pozen, chair of the SEC Advisory Committee on Improvements to Financial Reporting, delivered the keynote address on the first day of the conference, as noted in this summary of Day One of the conference.
Cooper provided some background about the growth of WorldCom and the reasons for its collapse, and then kept attendees at the edge of their seats with her story of how she uncovered the fraud, and the obstacles that were placed in her path by executives who wanted to stop her.
Cooper (at left) is pictured here with FEI Director of Technical Policy Analysis and writer of the FEI Financial Reporting blog Edith Orenstein.
