Interested In Teaching? Sign Up For AAA's PQ Program, Deadline March 26

Are you a CFO, Controller, or other finance professional interested in teaching at the college level, but didn't think you could since you don't hold a Ph.D.? The American Accounting Association (AAA), (founded as the American Association of University Instructors in Accounting) has a one-day program for you! And, see further below about a more intensive, one week program offered by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
AAA PQ Program Being Offered Saturday, April 19 in New York City
On Sat., April 19, 2008, in New York City, AAA will be holding a one-day program for professionals interested in being deemed Professionally Qualified (PQ) to teach at the college level. The program will not grant PQ status per se (that decision is made by individual colleges and universities), but will describe a roadmap to being deemed PQ, and will provide an opportunity to engage in conversation with people who have chosen that path. At the PQ program, you can gain insights from leading educators and professionals that made the leap from the world of finance, audit or other professions, to teaching at the college level, and hear their reflections on how best to prepare for and what to expect from the experience.
The creation in recent years of the PQ designation - vs. the traditional Academically Qualified (AQ) designation refering to those qualified to teach by means of holding a Ph.D. - reflects a two-fold response to today's environment:
(1) the desire to include instructors with more practical experience; and
(2) the desire to offset the current shortage of Ph.D.s in accounting, particularly in audit and tax. This shortage is expected to increase in the years to come due to projected retirements of professors and a concurrent increase in enrollment in accounting programs in the post-Sarbanes-Oxley era.
The April 19 PQ program in NYC is based on AAA's inaugural PQ program held at AAA's annual meeting in August, 2007. The registration fee for this one-day program is $450, which includes full membership in the AAA for the 2008-09 member year with electronic access to one journal, as well as lunch and an early Saturday evening reception at the April 19 program. CPE credits will be available for program participants.

March 26, 2008 is the application deadline for the April 19 AAA PQ program in NYC. (Please note on your application you heard about the program from FEI!)
NOTE: This is a "pre-application" to determine if you are likely to meet the PQ qualifications. You do not have to submit payment until accepted to the program. Those accepted to the program will be contacted by AAA by April 2, and confirmation of attendance and payment of the application fee by those attending is required by April 9.

If you miss the March 26 application deadline for the AAA's April 19 PQ program, or if it is not convenient for you to attend the April 19 program in NYC, check back to AAA's website www.aaahq.org periodically for updates on AAA's Annual Meeting to be held in August, 2008 in Anaheim, California, as a PQ program may be offered in conjunction with the AAA annual meeting as it was in 2007.
AACSB's One Week "Bridge" Program
Separately, another academic organization, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) offers a more intensive one week program for professionals interested in being deemed Professionally Qualified (PQ) to teach at the college level, called the AACSB Bridge program.
The next AACSB Bridge program will take place May 4-9 at Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. The cost of the AACSB's week-long Bridge program is $5,000.

The application deadline for AACSB's May program is March 10, if you missed that deadline you may want to consider the AACSB Bridge program the next time it is offered, or consider the AAA's one day PQ program noted above.
