: duties of national directors

Elected Directors are part of the senior leadership of FEI. They represent their chapter and their area in deliberations affecting the entire organization.

Directors are expected to attend and participate in all meetings of the Board, and expected to further the aims of FEI as expressed by FEI's mission statement and to facilitate communication between FEI and its chapters and members, alerting national leadership to chapter and member issues that need to be addressed.

Each director will be assigned liaison responsibilities with specific chapters, normally their own chapter and one or two others. Upon assignment, the liaison director should:

  • Introduce themselves to the chapter presidents.
  • Gain an understanding of chapter plans for the year and assess their adequacy.
  • Arrange for an early visit to represent National at a chapter Board meeting and members meeting.
  • Inquire of chapter and member issues, needs and concerns.
  • Prepare a chapter visit report for the Area Vice President, with a copy to the Member/Chapter Relations Department.
  • During the course of the chapter year, monitor chapter effectiveness by reviewing chapter reports and newsletter (if any) and/or periodic discussions with the chapter president or other chapter leaders.
  • Alert national leadership to any issues or concerns that might arise.
  • In assessing chapter effectiveness, consideration should include:
    • Organization and succession planning.
    • Chapter programs and professional development.
    • Membership recruitment and retention.
    • Finances
    • Participation in National Chapter Leadership Council.
    • Sharing of chapter best practices.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Encourage chapter support and member participation in national committees and fei such as our annual and technical conferences.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to liaison chapters, as needed.
  • Carry out such other tasks as might be assigned by the Area Vice President.
